The Jeep Wagoneer S, the car that many say should have been a Chrysler, appears on two floors at the New York Auto Show this week.
Upstairs, showgoers can see the car sitting on the floor, the main display animated, but the passenger-side dashboard looking oddly plain. The reason for that is clear when the car is running: that’s another display, but a subtle one.
Those who take the electric Wagoneer S test drive in the lower level will see the passenger side dashboard light up as an infotainment or control screen. They will also get a short, mildly interesting, and quiet ride in the Wagoneer S, which feels more like a luxury car than anything else. If they get into a Dodge Charger next, and remember the Wagoneer after the long wait on line, they will see that a great deal of the interior is identical or at least very similar; but the feel of the car is surprisingly different.
