GM and Stellantis dominated last week’s recall list. First up is side-curtain airbags which may throw sharp metal fragments at passengers, on both the left and right; only 6,066 vehicles might be affected, all made from December 6, 2015, through October 19, 2019 (there are specific dates for each type of truck in this file). The airbags were made by Joyson Safety Systems, and the investigation that spurred the recall started in late 2023; six vehicles appear to have shown the problem, and there were no reported injuries, so far. Affected are:
- 867 Ram 3500 pickups (2016-19)
- 2,111 Ram 2500 (2016-20)
- 3,086 Ram 1500 (2016 and 2018-19 Classic)
- 2 Ram 3500 Chassis Cabs (2016 model year)
In addition, 2017-19 Jeep Cherokees may stall or roll away from Park because of a damaged power transfer unit (PTU). Over 60,000 Cherokees are being recalled for this problem; Cherokee owners can prevent a rollaway by first making sure the emergency brake still works, and then by using it rather than relying on the transmission to hold the car in place when parked. Customers might not be notified until mid-February.
GM’s recalls are an adaptive cruise control that doesn’t hit the brakes on the 2025 Equinox EV and improperly tightened seat belt bolts on the 2024 Silverado EV and 2024-25 Sierra EV. Land Rover recalled its 2023-24 SUVs due to non-functional backup camera displays; a similar recall affects 2019-20 Jaguar XEs (Jaguar and Land Rover are the same division of Tata).
Other recalls for loss of drive power are Honda’s 2024 Acura ZDX (damaged cables) and Ford’s Bronco Sport and Maverick (2021-23, battery failure). Ford also had rear shock absorber reservoirs coming off on 2021-24 Broncos.
Kia, finally, had damaged wiring which can cause airbags to fire on the various 2023-25 Niros, while Toyota fuel pumps may fail on the 2018-19 Camry, Lexus NX, and Lexus RX.
