Jeep Avenger 4xe is now in production

Stellantis has started making the Jeep Avenger 4xe in its Poland plant, supplementing the battery-electric and e-Hybrid versions.

The Jeep Avenger is a subcompact vehicle created for sales outside North America; the first variant was a battery-electric. It was attractive enough to win the European Car of the Year award for 2023 and to garner over 160,000 customer orders since its launch.

As is Stellantis’ tradition, the 4xe starts with an “exclusive special series,” the North Face Edition; they are making 4,806 of them, one for each meter of Mont Blanc’s height.

The PHEV Avenger uses a 48V hybrid system with a 1.2 liter engine generating 145 hp helped by two 21kW electric motors, one at the front and one at the rear to provide all wheel drive. The sole transmission is a six-speed dual-clutch automatic. The company claims a 0-62 mph speed of 9.5 seconds.

The Avenger was not built with off-road capability as the primary priority, with an approach angle of 21°, departure angle of 35°, and breakover of 21°. The current version has 10mm more ground clearance, reaching 210 mm and a wading depth of 400 mm. The 4xe also adds a low gear of 22.7:1 on the rear axle. It can handle slopes of up to 40% on gravel, and maintain 20% traction with no grip ont he front axle. Traction on all four wheels is usually 50:50, but the rear axle disengages when it is not needed; at high speeds (over around 55 mph), the rear e-motor disengages for fuel economy.
