The all-new Dodge Charger Daytona battery electric vehicle (BEV) was formally introduced for the 2024 model year, but due to delays in development, those first 2024 model year vehicles are arriving to dealerships now. While there was no official statement made by the company, the press release announcing 2024 sales stated that the new Charger is currently shipping to dealerships around the United States – a fact which is supported by social media posts by dealerships representatives around the country.
The 2024 Dodge Charger Daytona is the first vehicle to come to market on the STLA Large platform and the first to feature this particular battery electric drivetrain, so it comes as little surprise that the car was delayed to address any “bugs” before releasing them to the public. Fortunately, having spent time driving both the R/T and Scat Pack models on the road and the track, I know that the newest Charger and first Dodge BEV is ready to meet buyers.
While the Dodge Charger Daytona is not a reasonable replacement for the muscle cars that were last offered as new in 2023 to many people, but for those who want an electric vehicle, this car is a fantastic alternative to the rest of the BEV segment. It is a two-door model with gobs of interior space, offering great ride quality and handling along with the kind of acceleration that you expect from a performance oriented EV. It is truly unlike anything else on the market today, serving as the most engaging and entertaining option in the electric vehicle segment.
Most importantly, every Dodge Charger Daytona sold drives the company fleet fuel economy numbers way up, which could play a role in reducing some of the fines coming from past model years and even helping improve the chances of more high performance gasoline-fed engines in the future.
