The Ram Brand has just dropped the details on the 2025 Ram Heavy Duty lineup and the biggest news is that the 6.7-liter Cummins Turbo Diesel in High Output form is the only diesel engine option and it is available across all 2500 and 3500 models. In the past, the highest performance Cummins engines were only offered in the one-ton models, but now all Ram Heavy Duty owners can enjoy a whopping 1,075 lb-ft of torque along with 430 horsepower.
“More than 70 percent of Ram Heavy Duty customers opt for the diesel, and for 2025 we built on that demand and long-lasting durability with an improved Cummins engine coupled with a new eight speed transmission,” said Tim Kuniskis. “This is a very specific pickup segment that requires a powerful tool — every 2025 Ram 2500 we sell allows the potential of 1075 lb.-ft. of torque in every gear, for a 70 percent increase in torque delivery from the previous generation 2500.”
In addition to the fact that the High Output 6.7-liter Cummins Turbo Diesel is the standard diesel engine option across the 2025 Ram Heavy Duty lineup, the diesel engine now comes with a new 8-speed automatic transmission, which allows for peak towing capacity with a 3.42 ratio rear gear. Previously, maximum towing capacity required 4.10 gears, but the 2025 Ram 3500 can tow up to 36,610 pounds (gooseneck) and 23,000 (conventional) with the 3.42 gear, leading to improved fuel efficiency in every driving situation.
While the High Output 6.7-liter Cummins Turbo Diesel engine is the standard diesel option for the 2025 Ram HD lineup, it is not the standard engine for the lineup. That is the tried and true 6.4-liter Hemi V8, which delivers 405 horsepower and 429 lb-ft of torque. That engine is the payload leader, allowing for a bed capacity of up to 7,590 pounds.
We do not have the full towing capacity chart for the 2025 Ram Heavy Duty lineup, but we will dive deeper into that information once it becomes available.
We cannot go without noting that the horsepower, torque and towing numbers are all below those of the Ford Super Duty lineup, so it appears that for now, the Ram Trucks brand has opted to not keep playing the one-up game with Ford Motor Company in terms of heavy duty truck numbers. That being said, with 430 horsepower and 1,075 lb-ft of torque, the 2025 Ram 2500 will be an absolute beast of a 3/4-ton workhorse and in towing up to 36,610 pounds, the 2025 Ram 3500 will meet the needs of most commercial one-ton truck owners. Ford has a slight edge in the numbers for now, but in the real world, those numbers will only impact a very small number of drivers.
Finally, in addition to the drivetrain changes mentioned above, the 2025 Ram HD lineup gets a new grille, standard LED headlights and taillights, retuned suspension for improved ride quality and a long list of new interior tech (some standard, some available) that includes a 14.5-inch touchscreen running the latest version of UConnect 5, a segment-first 10.25-inch passenger screen, a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, a digital rearview mirror, a dual wireless phone charging pad and an array of high tech safety gadgets.
The 2025 Ram Heavy Duty models (2500 and 3500) will be available in seven trimlines when they begin reaching showrooms later this quarter – Tradesman, Big Horn/Lone Star, Laramie, Rebel,
Power Wagon, Limited Longhorn and Limited. We do not have a full pricing breakdown yet, but we know that the 2025 Ram Heavy Duty lineup starts at $47,560 for the 2500.
