Two more Jeep recalls this week

Jeep had two more recalls this week, both affecting 2024 models. The Jeep Wrangler can have inoperative trailer lighting, but only 34 vehicles in the US (and presumably a handful elsewhere in the world) are affected. This only affects vehicles made from January 24 through March 18, 2024, with the tow package but with the wrong wiring harness. It appears this is easy to check—if the trailer lights don’t go on, they won’t go on.

The other recall is for the Grand Cherokee V6, both standard and L forms, which may show the wrong speed. Over 7,000 vehicles have a software error. Around 10% of the Grands made from December 13, 2023 through January 7, 2024, not including 4xe models, are affected. The number is roughly equally between the two-row and three-row vehicle, which is interesting since the longer Grands were much more popular before (this might just be an artifact of looking at a single, short period with a single engine).

The issue here seems to be a delay between reaching a speed and having the speedometer show it. A slow speedometer is not especially useful when trying to avoid speeding tickets.

The company did not say what the specific problem actually was, other than delay in responding to speed changes.

Other recalls last week covered 2023 Alfa Romeo Stelvios with the wrong tire labels, GM cutaway vans and Volkswagens without rear vision camera displays, a variety of Hondas and Acuras with poorly tightened car seat frames, a variety of Kias, Hyundais, and Genesises with damaged charging units, Volvos with poorly tightened seat belts, BMWs with naughty airbags, and vehicle rollaways among the Hyundai Tucson and Santa Cruz and the Fisker Ocean.
